Toy Poodles

Pure poodles have hypoallergenic fur, they do not shed.   People who are allergic to dogs get along well with poodles (however if they are highly allergic they may still react to the saliva).  Poodle fur grows like curly hair, just keeps growing.  You will need to brush out the knots and get your dog groomed every couple months.  Poodles have several different hair styles you can get.  I prefer Anabelle to be fluffy, so I go for the puppy pet clip.  Some people like to have their poodles done up fancier than others.  The  nice thing about poodles is that you can change the look with the seasons!  We go for a shorter do in the summer.    I cut Anabelle myself with a clipper designed for dog grooming.  I usually do touch-ups with scissors in between clips.  Poodle fur can be absorbent, so in the wet months Anabelle gets bathed once a week.

Toy poodles are an ideal breed because they are small and don’t require too much exercise, but they are not so small that you have to worry about them.  Our little Anabelle gets along great with big dogs and can keep up with a whole day of hiking.   Toy poodles do need a small daily walk in order to keep them healthy.

The incredible lap dog that is totally in tune with their owner.  My toy poodle is always in the same room with me, loves to play with her toys and enjoys a hearty bone.  She loves to be patted and will come sit with you whenever she sees a chance.  Anabelle knows how to give great hugs, she wraps her arms around your neck and nuzzles you.  Poodles are people dogs, their life revolves around their owner completely.

Poodles normally have their tails docked.  They have very long spindly tails that tend to get caught in doors and get broken.  To keep their tails manageable about 1/4 to 1/3 is removed from the tip of the tail when they are a few days old.  The result is not a small stub like some other breeds, just a slightly shorter tail.  They still have all the abilities of expression.
